THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN (TICK REMOVAL)
Tick Removal...........
A nurse discovered a safe, easy way to remove ticks where they automatically withdraw themselves when you follow her simple instructions. Read this one, as it could save you from some major problems. Tick Removal: Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads. Here is a good way to get them off you, your children, or your pets. Give it a try. Please forward to anyone with children, hunters or dogs, or anyone who even steps outside in summer!
A School Nurse has written the info below--good enough share--and it really works! "I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. This is great because it works in those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with
tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc." "Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few
seconds (15-20). The tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I've used it(and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.."
Summer time means picnics in the park, spending time at the lake, pesky ants and lots of sunshine. It can also mean heat stroke to both humans and our furry companions. Heat stroke is a deadly disease that can kill your beloved companion, even with emergency treatment. The best way to avoid this terrible situation is prevention. Everyone knows that inside of a car on a hot summer’s day can be lethal, but so can spending too much time outside or exercising in high temperatures (jogging with your furry friend, chasing Frisbees, etc.) Days above 90 degrees, especially with high humidity, are dangerous to your pet. Humidity interferes with the animals’ ability to rid them of excess body heat. When people overheat we sweat, and when the sweat dries it takes excess heat with it. Our four-legged friends only perspire around their paws, which is not enough to cool the body. To rid themselves of excess heat, animals pant. Air moves through the nasal passages, which picks up heat from the body. As it is expelled through the mouth, the extra heat leaves along with it. Although this is a very efficient way to control body heat, it is severely limited in areas of high humidity or when the animal is in close quarters. The shape of an animal’s nasal passages can contribute to an animal’s proneness overheat. Pug-nosed or snub-nosed dogs are more prone to heatstroke because their nasal passages are smaller and it’s more difficult for them to circulate enough air for cooling. Overweight dogs are also more prone to overheating because their extra layers of fact act as insulation, which traps heat in the bodies and restricts their breathing.

My name is Sandy Duthie. After a horrific fire that distroyed my home and all of its belongings and claimed the life of my dear cat Fleur I have realised that there is an unbelievable need for support after pet loss. I have received lots of help thru family and friends and support agencies. I got great relief in just "talking" to folks that I knew understood what an impact a loss of a pet can have on someone. The grieving journey is a very long one. I am at the seven month mark and a lot of days I feel like it was yesterday. I know that it is not something that I am ever going to get over or forget. I just have to find ways of moving forward on my journey. It is not easy It is one day at a time. I do understand the impact of the loss. Nobody truly understands an individuals need during grieving or how they feel. It is just a journey that is long and with some support it is a bit easier. This is my start to a legacy in my dear Fleurs memory.
